Chapter Twenty

Gray

The sun feels absolutely glorious this morning. I turn my face up towards the sky, just letting the rays sink into my skin. My first official week of summer school is over and I am enjoying the walk to brunch with Charlie. Finn picked me up on Thursday since my car is still at the ranch. He has been his usual flirty self with me, which is nice. I was more than a little worried that the whole ordeal from our date the other night would put us off of each other. Generally, starting things off with a bang is great, but blood and disaster are quite the mood killer. There have been two occasions now, when I thought he was going to kiss me. No cigar, though. Yesterday I spent the day drowning in homework and watching movies with Charlie, desperately needing some time to just be at home and think. Of course, thinking only led to questioning, fueling anxieties about my relationships with the guys as well as Finn. He and I have plans tomorrow night for the date he won from me and I am looking forward to whatever it is he has planned.

Mitch told me yesterday he was waiting on one more part to come in before he could finish up my car. I have offered multiple times to pay for the parts, insisted even, but Mitch will have nothing of it, being rather insistent himself. I worked the floor at work some the last two evenings, to try and get some tip money to go towards the car, but Mitch just told me to save it for all the things we are going to do together this summer. I let out a deep sigh. Thinking about spending more time with the guys always gets my heart beating faster, taking me into a fantasy land I do NOT want to be in. Well, I may WANT to be in it, I just shouldn’t be. Not only because I couldn’t pick between them, but also because of Finn.

Shaking myself to clear my head from the path my mind was taking, I turn to look up, of course because he is a giant, at my brother. Has he grown in the last week? We haven’t really talked since the morning of my date with Finn, letting the extreme action scenes from our favorite Marvel movies do the talking for us yesterday, so I am glad we are keeping up our tradition of bi-monthly brunch on Saturday mornings. We started them right after we moved in with Grams three years ago. The last homes we were in weren’t together before Grams was able to take us in, so I hadn’t seen Charlie for almost 8 months. He was having night terrors every single night, keeping himself isolated during the day in the treehouse as well. Grams was desperate to find a way to reach him, even going as far as to hire an at-home therapist to talk to each of us about our time in the system.
